An AIV Mechanical Engineer is being sought by Astroscale UK to join our state-of-the-art, brand-new headquarters in Harwell, United Kingdom. You will assume a critical role in the construction, integration, testing, and eventual deployment of the Astroscale spacecraft. Responsibilities of Mechanical Engineer Jobs in UK:

  • overseeing the assembly, integration, and verification of spacecraft at the mission level and during their delivery.
  • Mechanical Activities (AIV).
  • Design of AIV test setups; development, construction, and commissioning of MGSEs.
  • Develop and sustain AIV processes, plans, workflows, and schedules for satellites by programmatic and technical specifications.
  • Participate and offer input during the AIT evaluation process (TRR, PTR, and TRB).
  • Participate in matrixed project teams while supporting missions both domestically and internationally.

Essential Skills:

  • HND or equivalent of a higher education credential in mechanical disciplines.
  • Two years of commercial experience performing spacecraft or mission-level AIV tasks across a variety of mission types, or five years for senior personnel.
  • Expertise and practical involvement in the spacecraft/mission AIV procedure.
  • A technical comprehension of the planning, processes, mechanical GSE development, setup, operation, and verification of AIT activities (including testing at the subsystem, system, and environmental levels).
  • Knowledge and familiarity with providers of environmental testing apparatus and facilities.
  • Proficient in operating mechanical assembly tools and measuring instruments.
  • Expertise in the conceptualization and implementation of environmental testing initiatives, with a specific focus on mechanical and thermal verification campaigns.
  • Active and independent, while simultaneously making valuable contributions to a unified team.
  • Be registered and eligible to work in the United Kingdom and/or Europe.
  • As required, a readiness to travel and perform extended hours.

Desirable Skills:

  • Design, manufacture, and install thermal equipment, such as MLI.
  • Proficiency in operating mechanical testing instruments.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken communication, with previous experience collaborating with international teams.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for leadership and team management.
  • Exceptionally organized, possess a flexible work style, and amenable to change.
  • Interest and expertise in active space debris removal and missions.
  • Although English is the official working language across all Astroscale divisions, spoken and/or written Japanese proficiency is regarded as an asset.
